Al-Ittihad are allegedly interested in signing Liverpool defender Joe Gomez to play with Mohamed Salah.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Gomez is high on Al-Ittihad’s list of potential center-backs. They value the player’s flexibility since he can play anywhere on the backline with minimum hassle.
Gomez (26) is mostly a center-back but has also played as a full-back on either wing under Jurgen Klopp’s tenure. Because he is right-footed, he has spent the most of his time out wide as Trent Alexander-Arnold’s backup.
The 11-cap England international has dropped significantly in recent seasons, notably after the arrival of Ibrahima Konate in 2021. However, when he came on in the first half against Newcastle United on Sunday (27 August), he reminded supporters of his brilliance.
Gomez came on in place of Virgil van Dijk, who was sent off in the 28th minute against Newcastle, and aided his side to a 2-1 victory at St. James’ Park. He has four years remaining on his Anfield deal.
According to Romano, the Reds are unwilling to sell their top players so close to the September 1 transfer deadline. This includes Salah, who has been extensively linked with a transfer to Al-Ittihad.
According to TalkSPORT, the Saudi Pro League powers are preparing a €150 million (plus add-ons) bid for the 31-year-old superstar, who signed a three-year contract with Liverpool last summer. According to the source, the English club is adamant on retaining him on Merseyside this season.
