Graeme Souness has said that Manchester United is taking a huge risk by getting Rasmus Hojlund. He has questioned whether Hojlund has the ability to score goals that will help the Red Devils do better this season.
The 20-year-old Danish star moved from Atalanta to Old Trafford in a huge deal worth £72 million just over a month ago. This happened because United boss Erik ten Hag wanted to improve his team’s ability to score goals, especially after a poor Premier League season the year before. In 38 league games, they were able to score 58 goals.
Last weekend, Hojlund made his start for his team in a 3-1 loss at Arsenal. It was a big deal for the young forward, who had been out with a back injury. When he came in as a sub at the Emirates Stadium, he showed signs of how great he could be. He showed that he knew how to make good connections and was a strong force up front.
But Souness, while recognizing Hojlund’s potential, isn’t sure if the young Dane can really be the game-changer that Manchester United needs so badly. In an honest interview with The Express, which was published by Manchester Evening News, Souness talked about his concerns, saying:
“I don’t think Manchester United will do better this year than they did last year. They paid £72 million for Rasmus Hojlund, a young center forward who hasn’t scored many goals.
He added:
“He played 34 games for Atalanta, but he only scored 10 goals.” Now he’s in a game where it’s very hard to score. I could be wrong, but that’s a big risk for someone who hasn’t done anything like that before.”
Before he moved to Old Trafford, Hojlund played 34 games for Atalanta and scored 10 goals and set up 4 goals.
In light of the assault charges against Antony, his ex-girlfriend pleaded with Manchester United to bench the winger
Gabriela Cavallin, who used to be with United winger Antony, has said that the Brazilian player hurt her in a major way. She also asked the people in charge at Manchester United to keep him off Erik Ten Hag’s first-team group while the situation is being looked into.
Cavallin told The Sun that she was upset that the club had decided to let Antony keep playing despite these serious accusations. She said, as reported by The Peoples Person:
“Antony has to get off the field. It’s too bad that he can still play while there’s an investigation going on.”
In response to the situation, Manchester United put out a formal statement. They said that Antony won’t be able to play with the first team again until the probe is over.
It’s important to remember that Gabriela Cavallin said these things before United made their public release. It’s not clear if the club’s decision was affected by what she asked for.
