A former Premier League player-turned-coach has claimed that he thinks Eden Hazard would reconsider his mind and not retire. The Belgian legend announced his retirement on Tuesday, but Kevin Nolan thinks he will rethink his decision soon.
Nolan, West Ham United’s assistant manager, talked to talkSPORT after Hazard declared his intention to retire from professional football at the age of 32. The former Bolton Wanderers midfielder feels the Belgian is too young to retire and would welcome him to West Ham.
Nolan said that he would not mind giving Eden Hazard a trial in the coming months since he believes the ex-Real Madrid player will return to the field.
“I’d have Hazard of Chelsea at West Ham.” I’m sure if he wanted to come and try with us, we’d be happy to, at least I would be. I’m not sure what to make of the gaffer [David Moyes]. But I’d love to put him through his paces! He’s been a part of some of the finest years and goals in Premier League history.”
The coach went on to say that Hazard’s decision to return would not come as a surprise.
“It’s unfortunate that at 32, he’s decided to retire, because I believe someone of his caliber could play at the highest level for many more years.” I wouldn’t be shocked if we saw a little reversal in the next six to twelve months.”
Eden Hazard was available for trade earlier this summer, but after some thought, he opted to retire. The Belgian said that he had to listen to his body, which forced him to quit playing.
Eden Hazard is not likely to change his mind about retiring
Hazard was a player who always had a grin on his face when playing for Lille and Chelsea. His grin faded throughout his tenure at Real Madrid, initially due to constant physical difficulties, then due to his turbulent relationship with Carlo Ancelotti.
Hazard’s Real Madrid contract was terminated this summer as it became clear that the winger planned to compete for a starting spot. There had been efforts to relocate him for at least a year before, but he preferred to stay and play.
He had the opportunity to demonstrate his talent in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar before being freed, but he was a shell of himself. He failed to make an impact on games and was benched until the latter moments of their must-win encounter against Croatia. It came as no surprise when he announced his retirement from international football after the tournament.
Hazard turned down offers from the MLS and Saudi Arabia to continue his career this summer. After almost 14 years at the top level, he seems to be done with football.
