Jordi Alba was complimented by Kerala Blasters striker Jaushua Sotirio for his involvement to Lionel Messi’s famous goal for Inter Miami against the New York Red Bulls on August 27.
With the score 1-0, the Argentine superstar came off the bench in the 60th minute to make his MLS debut. Sergio Busquets pinged a long ball to Alba, who had made a highly advanced run down the left wing, just before the 90-minute mark.
Alba made an amazing first-time ball inside the box to Messi, who then performed a beautiful 1-2 with Benjamin Cremaschi. The pass from the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner to Cremaschi in the build-up to the goal made headlines, and deservedly so.
Messi’s ball to the 18-year-old demonstrated his playmaking skill and vision. However, Sotirio’s remark highlighted Alba’s fantastic bicycle pass to his old Barcelona colleague.
@433’s Instagram account posted a video of the goal, and the 27-year-old Australian striker remarked on it:
“Jordi alba credit 🤸🏽”
Miami’s victory moved them up to 14th in the MLS standings, with 21 points from 23 games, two more than bottom-placed Toronto, who have three more games to play. It was also their first victory in the league following an 11-game losing streak.
Inter Miami beat the New York Red Bulls, and Lionel Messi kept his hot scoring streak going
Lionel Messi has successfully scored a goal in all but a single instance out of his nine appearances for Inter Miami subsequent to his move from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the capacity of a free agent.
On August 23, the 36-year-old failed to score in his team’s semi-final match against Cincinnati. He did, however, deliver two magnificent assists for Leonardo Campana as the game ended 3-3 after extra time (Miami won on penalties).
Messi has now scored 11 goals and provided two assists in nine games for his new team across all competitions. He was notably brilliant in the Leagues Cup, scoring nine goals in seven games to help his club win the cup for the first time in its history.
The former Barcelona and PSG star’s next goal will be to assist Inter Miami in winning consecutive MLS games for the first time since May. On August 31, they host Nashville.
Messi is also set to miss at least three MLS games in September to join Argentina for World Cup qualifying.
