Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel struck a stoppage-time equalizer against Atletico Madrid, leaving football fans on X speechless.

Los Colchoneros grabbed the lead at the 30-minute mark in the UEFA Champions League group-stage opening on Tuesday (19 September) via Pablo Barrios. They assumed they were in for a big away victory in Rome, but Provedel had other ideas.

After a late Lazio set piece, the Italian goalie remained on the field. His daring and tenacity paid off as he got his head on the end of a hopeful cross from Luis Alberto.

The header came in the fifth minute of stoppage time, giving Lazio something to remember from their first Champions League match since March 2021.

One Liverpool supporter linked the event to Alisson Becker’s late winner against West Bromwich Albion in May 2022, tweeting:

“He’s done an Alisson”

Another fan mocked Chelsea’s โ‚ฌ100 million acquisition Mykhaylo Mudryk’s lack of goals this season, writing:

“More than a 100m mudryk.”

The fact that Provedel’s strike came on his Champions League debut added to its significance. The 29-year-old just joined Lazio from Spezia last summer and has since been the club’s first-choice keeper, keeping 22 clean sheets in 50 outings.
