Real Madrid supporters praised left-back Fran Garcia’s performance as Los Blancos defeated Real Sociedad 2-1 at home in La Liga on Sunday (September 17) to reclaim the top spot.
Starting the day in second position after archrivals Barcelona took the lead with a 5-0 home win over Real Betis on Saturday, Madrid reacted superbly. Sociedad were the somewhat superior side in the first 45 minutes, with Ander Barrenetxea scoring in the fifth minute.
Ancelotti’s team, though, equalized in the 46th minute thanks to Fede Valverde. Madrid took the lead at the opposite end, with Joselu finishing a cross from Garcia, who earned his second assist of the night.
New signee Jude Bellingham came close to scoring for the fifth game in a row, but Los Blancos held on for a hard-fought triumph to reclaim first place in the rankings. Garcia, on the other hand, was unquestionably the show’s star, with two assists and the MOTM award, with fans adoring the 24-year-old. One user tweeted:
