Manchester City is allegedly in negotiations with Chelsea about a possible transfer for captain Reece James.
According to Football Transfers, Mauricio Pochettino does not want to trade James, but the west Londoners might be swayed if a substantial offer is made. The 23-year-old was just named the club’s new captain in the summer, but he is widely considered as one of England’s greatest right-backs.
City are considering James as a long-term successor for Kyle Walker, 33. The veteran defender has signed a new two-year contract, although he is nearing the conclusion of his career.
James has been a star player for Chelsea throughout the years, and he had a fantastic 2021-22 season. In 39 appearances across tournaments, the England international scored six goals and provided ten assists. He followed it up with two goals and two assists in 24 games last season, when his team finished 12th in the league.
However, injuries have plagued the west Londoners’ captain. He is presently out with a hamstring injury and has only made one appearance this season.
Chelsea’s readiness to listen to a ridiculous offer for James is considered to be due to his ongoing injury issues. So far this season, Malo Gusto has stepped in for him, and he claims he ‘has a plan’ to ultimately become Pochettino’s main right-back.
According to the previous report, City will most likely not have to cope with the danger of Real Madrid. According to rumours, the La Liga giants are interested in James but are happy with Dani Carvajal.
James signed a new six-year deal with Chelsea in September 2022, tying him to the club until 2028. Since his debut in 2019, he has appeared in 148 games, scoring 11 goals and assisting on 20 others.
